Six Cougar Softball Athletes Earn UMAC All-Conference Honors

ST. PAUL, Minn. – Six members of the University of Minnesota Morris softball team were named to Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) All-Conference Teams, as announced Tuesday, May 12.
 
Earning First Team UMAC All-Conference honors for the first time in her career was Kendra Schmitz. The junior first baseman was also selected to the UMAC All-Defensive Team. This season, Schmitz posted a batting average of .368 and led the team with 35 hits and seven doubles. She also totaled 17 RBIs, 11 runs scored, and 15 walks. At first base, the Blaine, Minn., native tallied 206 putouts and had a fielding percentage of .982.
 
Olivia Losee was named First Team UMAC All-Conference following her senior season. This is also her second time earning All-Defensive Team honors. Losee started 34 games and posted a batting average of .327 with 35 hits. She led the team with three home runs and added three doubles and three triples. In the outfield, Losee recorded a fielding percentage of .971 with 64 putouts and four assists.
 
Mary Landherr earned UMAC All-Conference honors for the third time in her career. The senior catcher was named UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention. Landherr was second on the team with a batting average of .363 and 33 hits. This season, she hit her first collegiate home run and added 10 doubles, 17 RBIs, and 11 runs scored. Behind the plate, Landherr recorded a fielding percentage of .959 with 85 putouts, eight assists, and caught four runners stealing.
 
Taylor Johnson earned UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention honors for the first time in her career. The sophomore shortstop led the team with 18 stolen bases. Johnson posted a batting average of .352, the third-best mark on the team, with 32 hits. The Verndale, Minn., native added three triples, four RBIs, and 21 runs scored.
 
For the third straight year, Alyssa Thornton earned All-Conference recognition, being named UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention during her junior season. Thornton led the Cougars' pitching staff with seven wins, a 4.05 ERA, and 80 strikeouts. At the plate, the San Diego native posted a batting average of .287 with 25 hits, 12 RBIs, six runs scored, and three doubles.
 
In her first season with the Cougars, GingerAnn Lucas was named UMAC All-Conference Honorable Mention and UMAC All-Defensive. During the season, she was also named UMAC Player of the Week. Lucas posted a batting average of .329 with 28 hits. She totaled four doubles, one triple, 14 RBIs, and 21 runs scored. At third base, Lucas had 43 putouts, 56 assists and a fielding percentage of .961.
 
Morgan Wilhelm was selected to the All-Sportsmanship Team.
