ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris softball team was defeated 3-1 by the University of Wisconsin-Superior, eliminating them from the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament Friday afternoon in St. Paul, Minn.

GingerAnn Lucas reached in the first inning on a single down the left field line and then stole second base, but would be left stranded. The Yellowjackets took the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run.

In the fourth,
Mary Landherr drew a walk followed by a single from
Kendra Schmitz to put two runners on with two outs, but they would remain on base. UWS added to its lead with a solo home run to go up 3-0.

Kennedy Biegler singled to right field in the fifth.
Ro Diver reached on a fielder's choice and then advanced to second base on a steal.
Taylor Johnson drove in the first run for UMM with an RBI triple to pull the Cougars within two, but that would be the final run scored as Minnesota Morris fell 3-1.

The Cougars totaled four hits in the contest from Johnson, Lucas, Biegler, and Schmitz. Johnson had the sole extra-base hit with a triple and drove in the lone UMM run. Diver scored the run. Lucas and Diver each recorded a stolen base.

Alyssa Thornton pitched all six innings for UMM. The junior pitcher struck out one batter and gave up five hits and three earned runs.
