Shannon is a graduate of the University of Washington and obtained degrees in Psychology and secondary teaching. She received her master’s degree at North Dakota State University. Her master’s thesis was selected to be presented at the National Family Conference in New Jersey. She graduated with honors.

Shannon competed at Western Washington University where she set records in the 100 and 200 meters and qualified for the regional championships in Bozeman, Montana. She then began transferred to UW where she was a part of the record-setting relays: 400 meters and 1600 meters. She also competed in the 100 meters, 200 meters and 400 meters and qualified for the NCAA Division I Championships.

She is a retired family therapist and has written three books. Patsy also wrote two songs on a Grammy-submitted folk album. She continues to raise cattle, do free-lance writing and has performed cowboy poetry at local and national venues.
