October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM). The members of the Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) are going to help support NBCAM by teaming up with the Side-Out Foundation with the "Dig Pink" event.
The Side Out Foundation, uses resources to help conduct research, educate and promote awareness for breast cancer throughout the community. Each year, Side Out organizes a Dig Pink event, where they ask volleyball programs to designate a match in October as the "Dig Pink" match. The main goal of the event is to promote breast cancer education and awareness in the community.
Side out has a set a goal for $2,000,000 from 1,000 different teams participating in this year's fundraiser.
This year the University of Minnesota, Morris Women's Volleyball team will host their "Dig Pink" event at home against Crown College on October 23rd at 11:00 am.
All of the UMAC schools will be participating in the "Dig Pink" event on different days:
Bethany Lutheran College - Wednesday, Oct. 6
College of St. Scholastica - Friday & Saturday, Oct. 8-9
Crown College - Friday, Oct. 1
Martin Luther College - Wednesday, Oct. 27
Northland College - Friday, Oct. 8
Northwestern College - Friday, Oct. 15
Presentation College - Friday, Oct. 22
UMM will be Selling: Pink Power t-shirts for 10 dollars, pink rubber wrist bands for 2 dollars, Paper t-shirts with pink ribbon for 1 dollar (shirt has breast cancer awareness info on it) and will be having a silent auction with some memorabilia and balls for the Dig Pink event.
If you would like to purchase any of these items, seek out UMM Volleyball players as they will be selling them up until their Dig Pink match. You can also buy the items and check out the silent auction at the Dig Pink match on the 23rd at 11:00 am vs. Crown College.
