Cougar Fans, the wait is finally over, UMM football is back for 2010, and this Saturday marks the home opener.
Fresh off their big 49-19 win in the season opener last week, the Cougars return to Big Cat Stadium eying a 2-0 start to their latest campaign. Minnesota Morris will be hosting Westminster, who also enters the weekend sporting an identical 1-0 record. Westminster won 20-17 over Rhodes last week, opening the season at home.
Kick-off is set for 12:00 p.m., but before the ball is set, get here early for CougarFest on the stadium plaza starting at 11:00 a.m.
Some of the “CougarFest-tivities” will include a moonwalk for the kids, a Nerf field goal kicking contest at halftime, food on the plaza, door prizes and giveaways during the game. This year marks the sixth annual edition of CougarFest, welcoming students, fans and the city of Morris back to campus, while also kicking off another exciting season of Cougar football.
This will also be the fans chance to get a glimpse of the reigning UMAC Offensive Player of the Week in Cougar running back Todd Gramenz (St. Paul, Minn.), who was honored by the league after racking up three scores and 200 yards of offense last week.
The Cougars and Blue Jays represent two of five conference teams to win in their opener, with Westminster tabbed by some as the preseason UMAC champion. Mitch Zimmer (Little Falls, Minn.) Nate Lund (Cyrus, Minn.) and the Cougar defense will be tasked with slowing down an offense that passed for over 370 yards last week, while earning nearly 450 yards of offense on the day.
Last week the Cougars won the opener for the third straight season, and this week will look to go 2-0 for the second straight time. Minnesota Morris fans don't miss out, and don't be late for CougarFest, and the first home football game of 2010.
The fun starts at 11:00 a.m. in Sept. 11.
