Box Score

St. Paul, Minn. – Playing at the St. Kate's Invite, the University of Minnesota Morris women's soccer team dropped a 5-1 decision to host St. Catherine today, Sept. 11.

The two teams played an even first half, heading into the break all knotted up at 1-1, but in the second half, St. Kate's found their scoring stroke and connected for four goals to put the game away.

Despite the scoring disparity, the Cougars played close for much of the match, with St. Kate's not pulling away until late.  The score was just 2-1 for the first 70 minutes, and their last two goals came within 70 seconds of each other, in the final five minutes of the match.

St. Catherine got on the board first at the 15:57 mark, but the Cougars answered with the tying goal at 39:43 and went into the half tied despite being out-shot 10-to-4 in the half.  Katie Kestner (Phoenix, Ariz.) made good on a header off a Zoe Bergstrom (Westminster, Colo.) corner kick to pull the Cougars even.

St. Kate's netted the game-winner at the 53:48 mark, taking the 2-1 lead and never looking back. They then added three insurance goals in the final20 minutes.

The hosts finished the day outshooting the Cougars 28-to-6, including an 18-to-2 clip in the second half. Emily Jacob (Minneapolis, Minn.) had a busy day in the net, finishing with eight saves, but still suffers the loss as the Cougars drop to 1-3 on the year.

Tomorrow they will face Simpson College at 2:00 p.m. to wrap up their stay at the St. Catherine Invite.
