Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris women's soccer team handed league leading St. Scholastica their first conference blemish today (Oct. 16), stealing a 0-0 tie after 110:00 minutes of scoreless action.
St. Scholastica (9-4-1, 7-0-1 UMAC) entered the game with wins in each of their previous Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) match-ups before Morris (7-5-1, 5-2-1 UMAC) ended the run with today's tie.
RiAnne Metz came up huge in the game, stopping all 11 shots she saw for a new career high while pitching her fifth shutout.
The Saints fired off 22 total shots in the match, the second most the Cougars have allowed all season. The Cougars, meanwhile were held to just two on the day, after posting nine in the two teams first meeting. Rachel Berns took both of the Cougars shots, while the Saints were led by Andrea Beatt, who took a game high six.
In the second half alone the Cougars had to defened 10 Saint chances, to preserve the tie and hold CSS without a win in UMAC action for the first time since a tie with Bethany Lutheran on Sept. 18 last season
The Cougars stay unbeaten in their last five UMAC games, but see their four match UMAC winning streak come to an end.
The Cougars will now get to close out the regular season at home, playing their last four games at Cougar Field. It starts with Northwestern on Oct. 20, in a game that will have positioning for a home playoff berth on the line, as the two teams battle for second in the league standings.
The Eagles and Cougars are scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start.
