Morris, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris women's soccer team won for the second  straight time today (Oct. 26), scoring a 2-0 victory over visiting Martin Luther.

Goals in each half told the tale, as Meghan Laird (St. Michael, Minn.) scored 14 minutes into the game to put Morris (9-6-1, 7-3-1 UMAC) up 1-0, and Crystal Zastrow (Carlos, Minn.) scored in the 73rd minute to put the game away. The win surpasses last season's win total of eight, while tying their UMAC mark of seven wins in three fewer games.

The Cougars went nearly 68 minutes without allowing a shot to Martin Luther (8-8-1, 4-7-1 UMAC), while taking 29 of their own, their second best tally of the season.

Laird got the Cougars on the board by putting in a rebound off the crossbar, finishing off an attack that started with a shot from Rachel Berns (Stillwater, Minn.).

After nearly 50 minutes of scoreless play, Zastrow added the insurance, scoring an Abby-Wambach-esce header off a perfectly placed corner kick from Zoe Bergstrom (Westminster, Colo.).

Bergstrom took 12 of the Cougars season high 19 corners on the day, sending in several nice serves that led directly to shots for the Cougars, with the attempts going just wide or high until Zastrow finally finished one.

UMM allowed just two shots the Knights, with each coming from their leading scorer Bethany Schultz. It was the fifth time the Cougars have allowed five or fewer shots, and for the seventh time allowed two or fewer shots on goal.

The Cougars will close out the regular season this Saturday, Oct. 29, back on Cougar field when they host Bethany Lutheran in their Kick it to Cancer day.  It will also be senior day, and kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
