Volleyball opens the UMAC Tournament at St. Scholastica on Nov. 2
UMAC Volleyball Championship

After locking up an Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) Tournament berth in the final day of the season, the Minnesota Morris volleyball team will play on the road in the postseason as the No. 4 seed.

The Cougars will face a tall task, heading to Duluth to play top-seeded and regular season co-champion St. Scholastica on Nov. 2 at 7:00 p.m. The other semifinal is set with No. 2 Northwestern hosting No. 3 seed Martin Luther.

Morris enters the tournament after finishing 19-12 in the regular season, with an 8-6 record in UMAC play. St. Scholastica will counter with a 24-6 overall mark, including a 13-1 record in conference play.

The two teams have met three times this season, with the Cougars taking a win in the first meeting, however, the Saints took each of the match-ups in UMAC play. In just the second week of the season at the Blazer Invitational, the Cougars took a five-setter from the Saints, coming back from a 2-1 deficit to do so.

Just a week later in the Duluth, the Saints swept the Cougars, and in mid-October in Morris, St. Scholastica took the rubber match, coming back from a 2-0 deficit to beat the Cougars in five sets.

In the UMAC tournament last season, the Cougars fell 3-1 to Northwestern, the eventual tournament champions.

The Cougars are still looking for their first UMAC Tournament win, as Northwestern has ended Morris' season in each of their previous three trips.

The Cougars will also be in search of their first ever NCAA Tournament berth, as the UMAC Tournament champion receives an automatic bid to the DIII National Tournament.
