Morris 3, Simpson 0
Morris 3, St. Scholatica 3
St. Joseph, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris continued their early season hot streak today (Sept. 16), taking each of their opening matches at the Blazer Invitational.
Morris (7-1) opened the day with a 3-0 sweep over Simpson, winning by set scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-19. Then in their second match was the much anticipated meeting with St. Scholastica, with Morris pulling it out in five sets.
The Cougars dropped the first set, and found themselves down two sets to one after the third. But they answered with a seven point win in the fourth set before taking the match in the fifth (23-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-18, 15-7).
In just eight games on the season, the Cougars have already played three matches to a full five sets, winning each of them. They stretch their fifth set winning streak to eight, dating to the beginning of last season.
The Cougars have now won seven straight, and are 20-2 in their last 22 regular season matches. The win over CSS is the first since late October in the 2009 season, as the Cougars dropped three matches to the Saints last season.
Morris returns to the Blazer Invitational on Sept. 17 to finish play with another pair of matches. First, they again square off with Simpson at 11:00 a.m., and at 1:00 p.m. they finish off their weekend with host, St. Bens.
