Duluth, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris volleyball team was unable to take their second match in just over a week from St. Scholastica today (Sept. 24), falling in straight sets, 3-0.

Morris (8-4, 0-1 UMAC) got down early in the first set and never recovered, falling 25-18. The Saints (11-5, 1-0 UMAC) used seven straight points in the second set to take a 25-16 win, and in the third scored six of the last seven points for a 25-17 win.

The Cougars struggled at the net all night, hitting just .062 as a team, their lowest mark since the season opener. Morris hit just .021, .000 and .167 in the three sets respectively, compared to .140, .303 and .243 for the Saints.

Kaylie Clark's eight kills led the Cougars , with Allie Humphrey pitching in seven.

Setter Natalie Thomas finished with 25 assists on the night, putting her over the 2,000 mark for her career, with 2,002 and counting.

Thomas also added eight digs on the backline, while Clark led the defense with 14. Brita Humphrey added 13 digs in the match, her eighth time in double digits on the season.

The Saints were led by Anna Zyvoloski who finished with 18 kills in the match, the second best mark in the UMAC this season, in a three-set match.

Morris gets conference play started on the wrong foot, but the good news is it's just one. The Cougars return to action tomorrow when they travel to Northland for a 1:00 p.m. matchup with the LumberJills.
