Last time out
Last weekend the Cougars split, falling
1-0 to St. Scholastica in overtime, but coming back with a
7-1 win over Northland. In maybe the best game the Cougars have played against the high-powered Saints, Morris took nine shots, with three on goal and five corners, while goalkeeper
RiAnne Metz tallied 10 saves. The Saints finally broke through with the only shots in the extra session scoring less than five minutes in. Againt Northland, the Cougars scored in the second minute and never looked back. They lead 5-0 at the break en route to the win, getting a hat trick from
Leah Parker in the process.
Bethany Lutheran also split last weekend, falling
2-1 to Northwestern and beating Crown
1-0. Trailing 2-0 late, the Vikings scored in the 83rd minute to pull within one, but was unable to get another in the final minutes. Despite 17 first half shots – and 40 in the match – it took until the 78th minute before the Vikings broke though with the game-winning goal. The BLC defense came up big in pitching the shutout, allowing just three shots on goal.
Martin Luther split a pair of 2-0 games last weekend, beating
Crown, before falling to
Northwestern. Against the Storm, the Knights scored with just five seconds left before halftime to first get on the board, before adding another in the second half. Against the Eagles, the Knights were outshot 36-to-7, with Northwestern putting 17 of those shots on goal.
2010 meetings
The Cougars went 0-1-1 against the Vikings last season, setting for a
0-0 tie in Morris, before falling
1-0 in Mankato in the regular season finale. In the tie, the Cougars had their chances, outshooting the Vikings 17-to-8. Then in the loss, Morris against outshot Bethany Lutheran, but a single Viking goal late in the first half was the difference.
Against Martin Luther, the Cougars won and tied, earning a
1-1 draw at home, before winning
3-2 in the road. After an Cougar own goal gave the Knights a 1-0 lead, the Cougars tied it up just seven minutes later for the game's only scoring. Four first half goals left the second meeting tied at the break, but Cougars notched the game winner just three minutes into the second half.
