Saints Snap UMM Winning Streak

Box Score DULUTH, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris Cougars (16-7, 5-3 UMAC) had their seven match winning streak snapped on Friday night by the St. Scholastica Saints (12-9, 7-1 UMAC) 25-22, 25-21, 25-19. Emily Auch had 13 kills and a .286 hitting percentage.
 
Kaylie Clark had 28 digs to lead the defense; no other Cougar had more than five digs on the night.
 
The Cougars had some trouble stopping Anna Zyvoloski who had 17 kills and a .378 attack percentage.
 
The first set was a back and forth battle with six ties and three lead changes but it was St. Scholastica who was able to overcome being out hit by the Cougars. Minnesota Morris hit .293 in the first set compared to the Saints .278 percentage.
 
In the second set St. Scholastica out hit UMM by .150, .293-.143 but the Cougars stayed close as there were seven ties and three lead changes. The Cougars held 15-13 lead midway through the set but the Saints came storming back to take a 20-16 lead and despite the Cougars getting within one at 22-21. Three straight kills from the Saints gave them the 25-21 set win.
 
St. Scholastica controlled the third set right out of the gate taking a 10-3 lead and extending it to 18-9. The Cougars did their best to make it a competitive set going on a 7-3 run making it 21-16 but CSS would take the set 25-19 ending the match.
 
Minnesota Morris will take on Northland tomorrow to try and get back to their winning ways.
