Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – First place was on the line on Friday afternoon between the Cougars (10-4, 9-2 UMAC) and Saints of St. Scholastica (12-4-1, 10-1 UMAC). The Saints used a 70
th minute header to earn the 1-0 win.
With just over a minute left in the first half Rachel Berns hit a ball from about 20 yards out that struck the cross bar keeping the score 0-0 going into half. In the first half both the Cougars and the Saints had a shot a goal but were unable to beat the keepers for each team.
St Scholastica had a golden chance in the 59
th minute but
Rikki Beaver came up with a big save. Beaver came up big again in the 64
th minute stopping another shot.
The scoreless streak of 668 minutes for the Cougars defense was ended when St. Scholastica's Shannon Carlson headed a cross from Kelsey Kehtel into the back of the net. The goal would prove to be the match winner for the Saints as they move in to first place all alone in the UMAC.
Minnesota Morris will be back on the pitch tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. against the Northland Lumberjills.
