Cougars Sweep Away Rams

Box Score MORRIS, Minn. - The Cougars played host the North Central Rams on Saturday morning, in their second UMAC game of the weekend.  Saturday would also be family day, as many of the Cougar families were in attendance to watch the match up.  The Cougars (15-6, 5-2 UMAC) made it a good day for the families sweeping the Rams (1-18, 0-7 UMAC) 25-5, 25-9, 25-13.

Kaylie Clark was recognized for her 1,000th dig that took place against St. Scholastica back on September 28th, prior to the match. The Cougars have now won six straight matches.

Kalie Clark 1,000 digs

Morris started off the game by going up early 7-1, before the Rams would call a timeout to try and regroup.  After the timeout, North Central still didn't have an answer for the Cougars as they would build their lead up to 19-3 forcing the Rams to take their last timeout of the set.  Brita Humphrey would help lead the way during that long run, serving nine times in a row, including one ace.  The first set would end 25-5, after Mandy Allman would set up Hannah Knott for a kill, and giving the Cougars the first set.

In the second set, UMM would come out with the same attack as they did in the first set, taking an early 9-3 lead after Michele Hanson would record her second ace of the match, she would then add another ace to her total on the day before the Rams would call a timeout.  After the timeout Hanson would continue to rack up the aces, as she would have three straight and five of the last six serves, as she kept the Cougars attack going putting them up 19-3.  Morris wouldn't stop there eventually adding two more points before the Rams had a kill to get a chance to serve.  The Cougars would go on to win the second set, after Allman would get her first ace of the night.

In the third set Hannah Terhaar would start things off by serving for the Cougars and getting them off to a 3-0 start and were looking to close this game out.  The Rams would try and come back closing to within 6-5, before UMM would finally take control of the set.  The Cougars would start to slowly put North Central away, as they would force NCU to take a timeout after extending the lead 16-8.  After the timeout the Cougars would put the Rams away by taking the third and final set, completing the sweep, 25-13.  Allman again would end the game with another ace.

Morris will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Aberdeen, S.D. to take on Presentation.
