Foss Leads Cougars to Win

Box Score ABERDEEN, S.D. – Minnesota Morris (2-3) made it two straight as they picked up another close win on Wednesday night, defeating Presentation College (2-2) 83-79. Brendon Foss led the way with 20 points and eight rebounds. Both Ben Hoidal and Evan Reller added 13 points as nine Cougars recorded points on Wednesday night.
 
UMM shot 57.4% from the field on Wednesday night connecting on 31 of 54 shots and were 8-14 from behind the arc. Foss and Reller had eight rebounds nearly picking up a double-double as the Cougars out rebounded PC 40-22. Presentation was able to keep the game close by forcing 22 turnovers.
 
The Saints were on fire early forcing turnovers and turning them into an 11-0 lead in the first 3:15. The Cougars turned the ball over four times in the opening three minutes. Nick Jansen opened up the scoring for the Cougars as UMM closed the gap to five three minutes later. Tyler Pendelton hit a three pointer with 12:10 left to bring the Cougars within one at 15-14 and Foss gave UMM their first lead of the game about a minute later. After trailing 11-0 early the Cougars went on a 21-4 run taking a six point lead. The lead would grow as large as ten with 7:37 left in the half before the Saints battled back. PC went on a 10-1 run cutting the lead to one at 30-29. Minnesota Morris would take a six point lead into half with the Cougars leading 38-32.
 
Morris went up by 14 in the opening 3:45 of the second half. The lead never got under six until 12:23 left in the game as PC pulled to within four at 57-53. Presentation tied the game up at 61 and took a slight lead with 10:34 left in the game. The rest of the game was back and forth battle that saw six ties and four lead changes. The Cougars took a two point lead at 70-68 with seven minutes left and despite the Saints tying the game up three more times the Cougars held off Presentation each time picking up the 83-79. Foss hit a pair of free throws with 46 seconds left to put UMM up for the final time.
 
The Cougars are back in action next Tuesday against Valley City State at 7:30 p.m. at the P.E. Center.
