Five Goal Second Half Propels Cougars

Box Score ASHLAND, Wis. - The Cougars (2-2, 1-0 UMAC) used a scoring streak in the second half to upend Northland 7-0 on Friday afternoon. Both Rachael Berns and Katie Kestner had two goals in the match for UMM. Zoe Bergstrom opened up the scoring in the ninth minute to give Morris a quick 1-0 lead. BOX SCORE

Kestner picked up her first goal of the match in the 23rd minute putting UMM up 2-0. The score would remain 2-0 until the second half.

After a scoreless twenty minutes to open up the half, Rachael Berns put one in the back of the net for her first of two goals in under a minute. Amazingly they were not back to back as Kelsi Kolle had a 66th minute goal as well. The Cougars led 5-0 after scoring those three goals in under a minute.

Kestner scored her second goal of the match in the 84th minute before Megahn Laird added a goal of her own in the 89th minute to seal the 7-0 victory.

Rikki Beaver and Rianne Metz combined for the shutout.

UMM will be back in action tomorrow as they take on St. Scholastica at 12:00 p.m.
