Cougars Split Day 2 at Macalester

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Morris volleyball (8-3) team lost to begin the second day at the Macalester Invite but were able to sweep the host Scots to end the tournament 2-2. The day began with a tough 3-1 loss to Wisconsin Superior, 25-22, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25.

In the match with the Yellowjackets of Wisconsin Superior UMM had 11 blocks but fell just short in three sets. Kaylie Clark had a team high 20 digs in the set to lead the defense. Emily Auch had 14 kills and Tietz tied a career high with 13 kills. Mandy Allman had a double-double with 11 assists and 14 digs.

Morris took a quick 4-1 lead in the first set but WS came back to tie the set a five. UMM got the lead back and did not trail until Wisconsin Superior took a 12-11 lead. The Yellowjackets never trailed again and took a 17-11 lead midway through the set.

Set two was a back and forth battle throughout as neither team held a lead bigger than three. UMM trailed 14-11 midway through the set but tied it up at 15 but did not take a lead until it was 24-23 thanks to a Hannah Knott kill. Morris took the set on the next point to win the set 25-23.

Wisconsin Superior jumped out to a 10-3 lead quickly in set three and never really looked back. The Cougars cut the lead to 23-18 late but would end up falling 25-20.

The Yellowjackets took control of set four scoring six straight points midway through to take a 17-10 lead. UMM made a late charge to get within three at 23-20 but could not complete the comeback and fell 25-22.

UMM beat Macalester 25-22, 25-17 and 25-18 for the sweep. Emily Auch had a team high 13 kills for UMM. Abby Tietz ended with nine. The team hit .297 in the match with just 13 errors.
