Eagles Score 28 Unanswered to Beat Cougars

Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Morris Cougars (2-3, 2-2 UMAC) could not overcome Northwestern's (4-1, 3-1 UMAC) 28 straight points to start the game falling 38-14 on the road. Dan Garrigan had two touchdown passes and Leandro Dower had 109 yards on the ground for Morris.
 
Four different Cougar receivers had three catches on the day including Dalton DeGraffenreid and Danny Kernan who had the touchdown catches.
 
Northwestern opened the scoring in the first quarter on a seven play drive ending in a five yard touchdown run. They would add another touchdown five minute later in the first quarter taking advantage of UMM interception.
 
The back breaker may have come in the second quarter when NWC had a 21 play, 99 yard drive and then immediately got the ball back after Morris fumbled on the ensuing kickoff leading to another Eagles score just 56 seconds later.
 
The Cougars got on the board with 51 seconds left in the half as Kernan caught a 16 yard pass from Garrigan. The Eagles were able to respond with a field goal as time expired in the first half.
 
Morris recovered a fumble on the opening kickoff of the second half but could not turn it into any points. Northwestern would score on a eight yard run in the third quarter to make it 38-7 after three. DeGraffenreid caught a 19 yard pass with 5:57 left in the game to make it 38-14.
 
Minnesota Morris did recover on fumble to increase their national lead in that category with 13.
