Steve Birman had a season high 27 points on Tuesday night as the Cougars kicked off the UMAC season with an 86-62 win over Crown. UMM had four Cougars in double figures in the win and shot over 60% from three point range. This weekend proves to be a tough task as they face a Saints team that was predicted to finish third in the pre-season poll. Northland was picked to finish seventh.

The only common opponent so far this year for the Cougars and Saints is Concordia Moorhead. Concordia beat UMM 78-76 in Morris and beat CSS 81-59 in Duluth.

The Saints have two scorers averaging over ten points per game and are led by Brett Tester who is averaging 13.2 points and 6.0 rebounds per game.

Northland will look for their first on the season against Crown on Friday, before taking UMM on Saturday. Three Lumberjacks are combing to score nearly 38 of the average 55 points that Northland scores each game. Their leading scorer is Carnell Sheppard who is averaging 16.3 points per game.
