Chad Braegelmann, earned his 100
th win this afternoon as the women's volleyball team defeated the St. Scholastica Saints in five sets (25-20, 12-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-7) . The Cougars won the first, third, and fifth sets to move onto 17-9 on the season and stay undefeated in the UMAC (9-0).
The first set went to the Cougars as they defeated the Saints 25-20. They were led by
Emily Auch as she recorded four kills on ten total attacks.
Mandy Allman logged five assists and Kaylie Siekmann with six.
The second set was easily won by the Saints as they proved to be too much.
Abby Tietz went on to lead the Cougars with four kills, while
Mandy Allman recorded six assists. In the end, though, the Saints were too much for the Cougars as they went on to win 25-12.
The third set was a tough match for the Cougars as they barely beat the Saints 25-22. Once again, Tietz and Allman were the key duo as Tietz had six kills off of Allman's seven assists. The Cougars bested the Saints as they had fourteen kills compared to their twelve.
Once again, the Saints handled the fourth set as they went on to win 25-14 to force a fifth set. The Cougars did not have anyone with more than two kills on this set.
Kaylie Clark, however, had 12 digs on the set. Clark recently broke the school record (1,707) in digs last week against Wisconsin-La Crosse.
The fifth and final set went to the Cougars as they beat the Saints 15-7. They jumped out to a quick lead as the score was 10-2 and the Cougars never looked back.
The Cougars were led by
Abby Tietz with 15 kills,
Mandy Allman with 28 assists, and
Kaylie Clark with 34 digs.
The women will return to action on October 25 against Bethany Lutheran. These two teams met earlier this season where the Cougars defeated the Vikings 3-1.
