Box Score MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars clinched a share of the UMAC Conference Championship for the first time since 2003 on Friday sweeping North Central (25-9, 25-12, 25-8). The team hit .342 on the night and held North Central to .000 hitting. Four different Cougars had five kills on the night.
In the first set Morris took control with a 16-3 run, taking a 20-7 lead late in the set. The Rams could not get any closer as UMM ran away with the set 25-9. The Cougars jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the second set and North Central could not recover. North Central pulled within four but could not get any closer and the Cougars went on a 10-3 run to secure the second set. They would go on to win the set 25-12. Minnesota Morris made some substitutions in the third set but still kept control of the set. Morris used a 12-2 start to put a stranglehold on the set and the match. The Cougars would end up taking the set 25-8.
Tomorrow afternoon the Cougars will battle with Northwestern at Noon with a chance to clinch the UMAC Regular Season Championship out right. They will also host Concordia Moorhead at 2 p.m. to close out the regular season.
