Cougars Poised for UMAC Championship

MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris (23-11) volleyball team will play in the UMAC Championship tomorrow in St. Paul against Northwestern (22-12). The Cougars, who were selected to finish second in the pre-season will try to pull the upset on Saturday night at 7 p.m. WATCH LIVE | LIVE STATS
 
With 23 wins on the year UMM has tied the 1994 team with the second most wins in a single season. Their .676 winning percentage this season is third highest percentage in school history behind the 28-11 season in 1992 and the 2012 season in which they had a .677 winning percentage.
 
Abby Tietz and Emily Auch have led the team in kills this season, both are not too far off the top ten list for most kills in a single season. The team has 1574 kills on the year, just 37 kills shy of the school record set in 2003 when sets were played to 30. They have nearly 500 less attempts this season than in 2003.
 
Defensively UMM is holding teams to just .148 hitting and have combined for 1,935 digs. Kaylie Clark leads the team with 632 digs, second most in school history. The Cougars have 207 blocks this season and Tietz and Cori Becker will do their best to slow down the Eagles attack on Saturday evening.
 
The winner of Saturday's match will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
