MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars volleyball team will become familiar with hotel rooms and the bus this weekend as they kick off the 2013 season with a Midwestern trip. Minnesota Morris will play three matches on Friday in Grinnell, Iowa before hitting the road and playing two matches in Wichita, Kansas on Saturday.
On Friday the Cougars will take on Nebraska Wesleyan, William Penn and Grinnell on Friday. The team will play all three consecutively starting at 2 p.m. Then on Saturday they take on Friends University and Northwestern Oklahoma State starting at 1 p.m. in Wichita. The Cougars will be at home on September 3 as they take on Macalester College and the College of Saint Benedict starting at 5:30 p.m.
Head Coach
Chad Braegelmann is excited to begin the season despite having to spend a lot of time in the bus over the next three days. "This early season schedule will help us see what we have as a team, it will be challenging and productive," explained Braegelmann on Cougar Connection.
This trip gives Kansas native,
Kaylie Clark a chance to play close to her hometown and in front of family. After an early season trip to California last season, this trip is not as glamorous but Braegelmann did say, "I know that at least 1/17
th of my team is really excited about this trip."
The team returns Clark,
Emily Auch,
Abby Tietz,
Mandy Allman,
Hannah Knott, and
Brooke Decker as regular contributors from last season. Chad is also really excited about his newcomers, hoping they will add depth to a team that he thinks can compete for a UMAC Championship.
