Cougars Roll Past Tigers

MT. PLEASANT, Iowa – The University of Minnesota, Morris Cougars (1-2, 1-1 UMAC) picked up the 41-24 win over Iowa Wesleyan. Dustin Spohn had 111 yards rushing and one touchdown.
 
The Cougars trailed 17-7 midway through the second quarter before the offense got rolling. Spohn scored from six yards out after a 12 play 67 yard drive. Danny Kernan ended a seven play 61 yard drive with a 12 yard touchdown catch from Caleb McLaren just before half to put UMM on top.
 
McLaren threw his third touchdown of the game to Leandro Dower giving the Cougars a 27-17 lead. McLaren and Kernan connected once more early in the fourth quarter giving Morris a 34-17 lead. Following a Tiger touchdown Dower and McLaren hooked up once again, this time from 11 yards out.
 
McLaren finished the game with 358 yards, five touchdowns and 58 yards rushing on the day. Brendon Foss had nine catches for 76 yards and a touchdown. Dower finished with 55 yards receiving and Kernan had 44.
 
Cody Hickman again led the team in tackles with 12 including one for a loss.
 
Next up is a match up with Eureka, who dropped a tough one to Greenville 28-27 on Saturday. It will be homecoming weekend for the Cougars.
