Cougars Trounce LumberJills

ASHLAND, Wis. – Minnesota Morris (9-6, 3-0 UMAC) stayed perfect in UMAC play with a sweep over Northland (1-14, 0-3 UMAC) on Saturday evening. The defense held the LumberJills to -.130 attack percentage. It was the lowest any team has hit against the Cougars all year.
 
Morris held Northland to just nine kills in the entire match on Saturday. The Cougars spread the ball out offensively as 11 players had a kill for Morris. Hannah Terhaar led the way with six and Abby Tietz had five. Kaylie Clark had nine digs in two sets to lead the defense. Mandy Allman had eight assists, Brooke Decker had seven and Kayley Siekmann added six. Hannah Knott had two solo blocks and a block assist on the night.
 
The first set was competitive, featuring four ties and three lead changes. Morris lead early but Northland recovered. Trailing 8-7, UMM went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-8 lead. Northland cut it to three but that would be as close as they would get. Morris scored eight straight points out of a timeout and took the set 25-15.
 
It was all Minnesota Morris in the second set after they jumped out a 6-1 lead. Nine straight points in the middle of the set made it 17-4 and the Cougars won the set 25-9.
 
It was tight in set number three before a 5-1 run gave UMM a 16-9 lead. The LumberJills never recovered and Morris finished the set scoring nine of the last ten points to take the set 25-11.
 
The Cougars will now travel to Duluth to take on St. Scholastica Sunday at noon.
