Box Score ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (6-6, 0-1 UMAC) ran into a hot shooting Crown Storm (4-8, 1-0 UMAC) on Saturday evening, falling 97-77. The Cougars shot 44% from the field but were just 4-20 from three in the game. Crown was 10-28 from three and shot over 52% from the field in their 20 point win.
It was a balanced scoring effort for UMM on the night, four players scored in double digits on the night. Even Reller led the way with 13 on 5-7 shooting.
Brendon Foss had a double-double, doing most of his damage from the line shooting 8-13 from the stripe on the way to a 12 point, ten rebound game.
Cody Emrick and
RJ Dean also had 12 points on the evening.
Crown led early but UMM kept them in their sights never trailing by more than four in the first eight minutes of play. The Storm used a 9-2 run from the 11:23 to 10:05 to take a 22-13 lead midway through the first half. Morris scored the next five points to cut the lead back to four but could not get closer as Crown kept scoring. The lead grew to as big as 11, 41-30, in the first half. Dean hit a layup with under ten seconds left in the half cutting the Crown lead to 42-34 at the break.
The Storm were able to maintain at least a two possession lead through the opening minutes of the second half. Trailing by seven at 50-43, UMM got five quick points and after a pair of free throws by
Jordan Gieske, they trailed by just two with 15:54 left. After Crown built their lead back up to seven the Cougars went on a 9-0 run, taking a 57-55 lead with 12:34 left in the game.
The lead would change hands a couple times over the next few minutes before Crown took control. With the game tied at 62 with just over 8 minutes to play Crown went on a 35-15 run to pick up the win. During the run Crown was 11-12 from the field and 10-12 from the foul line.
The Cougars will now host St. Scholastica and Northland in the P.E. Center in their first home game since December 20.
