Cougars Aim to Take Title

MORRIS, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (12-4-1, 11-0-1 UMAC) will be home this weekend as they try to chase down a UMAC Regular Season Title. Morris welcomes St. Scholastica and Northland to Cougar Field for a pair of important UMAC games. The match has been chosen as the UAMC Game of the Week.

Since 2003 the Cougars have four wins and three ties against the Saints. A win over the Saints would give the Cougars the number one seed in the UMAC Tournament next week. A tie would mean the Cougars and Saints would most likely split the UMAC regular season title. Currently the Cougars hold the tie breaker over the Saints due to goals allowed.

The two teams tied 0-0 in their first meeting this season, ending the Saints streak of 31 straight regular season victories. St. Scholastica hit the post twice in their early season meeting.

Defensively, the Cougars have not yielded a goal during conference play. They rank 10th in the country in shutout percentage and 21st first in goals against average this year. They are allowing just .52 goals per match this year.

The Cougar offense has been led this season by Emma LaChance and Molly Hancuh who have each scored 10 goals on the season. Christina Mollan has added eight assists on the season for the Cougars. The Morris goalies lead the league in save percentage and goals against average. LaChance ranks 19th in the country with five match winning goals.
