MORRIS, Minn. – Saint John's (1-1) was on fire on Tuesday night, shooting 66.7% from the field while hitting 11 three's on their way to a 92-69 win over the Cougars (1-2). Minnesota Morris didn't have a bad night shooting the ball, making nearly 50.0% from the field.
Isaac Sawyer had a career high 11 points to lead the Cougars on night.
Cody Emrick and
John Haseman each added nine. Morris had just 21 rebounds on the night due to the Johnnies shooting so well from the floor. No Cougar had more than three rebounds on the night, as
Tyler Ukkleburg led the team in that category.
The Johnnies started the game on 21-9 run which put the Cougars behind the eight ball early. Morris had trouble trying to come back and got no closer than seven in the first half. Saint John's would finish the half on an 18-11 run to take a 14 point lead into the locker room.
Out of the halftime break SJU stayed in control of the game, extending their lead to 28 with 11:29 left. Morris was unable to make a run to cut into the lead getting no closer than 21 the rest of the game.
Minnesota Morris will look to recover on Saturday as they travel to take on Gustavus at 3 p.m. in St. Peter.
