Cougars Late Rally Comes Up Short

BEMIDJI, Minn. – After a hot start the Cougars were unable to hang on against Concordia Moorhead, losing 66-63. Emily Auch, Kendra Wycoff and Kayla Kraemer combined for 39 of the Cougars 63 points on the night. Kramer set a new career high with 17 points on 7-11 shooting.
 
Auch had 12 points and 13 rebounds; it was her second double-double of the young season. Wycoff had ten points and five rebounds.
 
Both team struggled to take care of the ball on Tuesday night, combining for 37 turnovers. Concordia was able to take advantage of the turnovers they forced, scoring 24 points off turnovers. The Cobbers were just 8-22 from the foul line which helped keep the Cougars in the game late.
 
Minnesota Morris began the game on a 19-8 run as they shot 7-8 from the field in the opening five minutes of play. The Cougars kept their distance from Concordia for a majority of the half, leading 30-21 with less than seven minutes to play. However, the Cobbers went on a quick 11-0 run in a span of two minutes to take a 31-30 lead. Both teams struggled to score much in final four minutes of the half and the game was tied at 33 at the break.
 
Morris started the second half strong and jumped out to five point lead. Concordia went on an 11-2 run to turn a three point deficit into a six point lead with 9:52 left in the game. Morris would fall behind 66-57 with four minutes left but they did not give up. They would hold the Cobbers scoreless in the final four minutes of play and pulled within three at 66-63 with 32 seconds left. Morris had chance to tie the game on two different occasions but could not come up with the game tying bucket.
 
The Cougars are off until next Tuesday when they take on Mayville State on the road.
