MORRIS, Minn. – Saturday afternoon provides the Cougars (14-5-1) another chance to punch their ticket to the NCAA Tournament. Morris will take on St. Scholastica (14-6-1) in the 2014 UMAC Championship match at 2:00 p.m. in Duluth.
The Cougars and Saints have had some intense battles this season already and Saturday should be another great match. The two teams tied earlier this year in Duluth and then the Saints just edged the Cougars last week after a late goal.
Minnesota Morris had recorded a team record 14 shutouts this season and they will try to add a 15
th this weekend and make their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history. Currently the Cougars rank 15
th in the NCAA in shutout percentage and 27
th in goals against average. They have given up just two goals in 15 matches against UMAC competition this season.
As great as the defense has been for the Cougars, the offense will need to help them out on Saturday. They have been unable to score on the Saints this season but have had their chance to put the ball on the net.
Emma LaChance and
Molly Hancuh lead the team with 11 goals each.
