Cougars In Search For Win #1

MORRIS, Minn. - After a tough first two weeks to the season, the Cougars (0-2, 0-1 UMAC) will host Iowa Wesleyan (0-2, 0-1 UMAC) at noon on Saturday. Minnesota Morris' offense will look to get on track after being able to average just 150 yards per game so far this season. After playing two stout defenses, the Cougars will play the Tigers, who are giving up 42 points per game this season.,

Series History: For just the second time, Minnesota Morris and Iowa Wesleyan will meet. Last season the Cougars defeated the Tigers 41-24 in Mt. Pleasant.

Kickin It': Donnie Mavencamp ranks second in the nation in punting. Through two games he is averaging 47.3 yards per punt. His 40.7 net yards per punt is seventh in the nation.

Open Window: Iowa Wesleyan has been outscored 75-0 in the second and third quarters, something the Cougars hope to take advantage of this weekend.

Eerily Similar: When comparing the two teams after the first two weeks of the season, they posses many similar trends and stats.,

Both teams are allowing more than 40 points per game, and UMM and Iowa Wesleyan are both, averaging just over 150 yards of total offense. So one of these categories will most likely change for at least one team following Saturday's meeting.

They are both among the least penalized teams in the country.

Time of possession favors the Tigers 27:34 to 27:30.

The amount of first downs picked up is just separated by two, 22-20 in favor of the Cougars.

Air Raid: The Tigers, who have been credited with developing the "Air Raid" offense when Mike Leach was their Offensive Coordinator, will throw the ball about as often as the Cougars. Both teams have relied on their passing offense to gain a majority of their yards this season.,

Racking Up Tackles: Cody Hickman ranks eighth in the nation with 15.5 tackles per game. He needs four more tackles to reach 400 in his career.
