MANKATO, Minn. – For the first time in program history the Cougars (1-3-1, 0-0-1 UMAC) tied a match to open up the conference season. A 90
th minute goal by Bethany Lutheran knotted the match at two and it stayed that way through overtime.
The match started off well for the Cougars, who scored just 42 seconds in, on a shot from
Michael Schuweiler.
Zachary Jacobson made it 2-0 in the 22
nd minute thanks to assists from
Luqman Barre and
Jacob Sphatt.
The Vikings cut the lead to one in the 53
rd minute, making it 2-1. The Cougars were less than a minute from securing a 2-1 victory when Bethany was able to tie the game on a header.
Morris had four shots in the first overtime period but could not get the match winner.
Cody Christ had four saves in the game. The Cougars outshot the Vikings 17-11 in the match.
