MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (3-9, 1-0 UMAC) began the conference season on a high note beating Crown (0-11, 0-1 UMAC) 88-47. The Cougars scored 34 points in the paint and got 36 bench points in the win.
Kendra Wycoff led the team with 20 points on 7-15 shooting; she was 6-11 from behind the arc.
Kayla Kraemer added 14 points and 7 assists. Kraemer was a perfect 4-4 from three in the game.
Cori Becker and
Jordan Halverson had double digits off the bench with Becker adding 11 and Halverson pouring in ten.
Wycoff started the game by hitting four straight three's to give the Cougars a quick 12-0 lead over the Storm. Morris extended that lead to 15 at 23-6 with 11:50 left in the first half. The Cougars did not allow the Storm to reach double digits until the 8:18 mark in the first half. UMM led by 30 at the break 47-17.
Minnesota Morris was efficient in the first half as they racked up 15 assists on 18 made baskets. The team shot 56.3% from the field in the first twenty and a scorching 8-13 from behind the arc. Wycoff had 12 point and four assists. Kraemer had five points and five assists in the half.
The Cougars continued to roll in the second half forcing more turnovers and turning them into points. They would finish the game with 21 points off 19 Crown turnovers. Morris had 30 assists as a team, their highest total of the season. It was the most team assists since 2010-11 season, when the Cougars had 31 against Crown.
Morris will head on the road next weekend looking to build off Saturday's win. UMM will go south to take on Bethany Lutheran and Martin Luther.
