NEW ULM, Minn. – Paul Grove reached his 100^th career UMAC win on Saturday evening as the Cougars (5-9, 3-0 UMAC) beat Martin Luther (2-11, 1-2 UMAC) 79-70. Neil Helgeson had another good night shooting, scoring 19 points after 7-11 day from the floor.
 
The Cougars started the game off right, scoring the first five points of the contest. The Knights would not let UMM run away from them and the two teams were separated by just one point through the first ten minutes. Martin Luther took their first lead at 19-18 and the two teams traded a couple baskets for the next few possessions.
 
Martin Luther led by four with fewer than eight minutes to play but Helgeson hit a three on back-to-back UMM possessions to help the Cougars tie it at 28. The Knights would quickly push their lead back to four and it stayed that way for about two minutes before Cody Emrick hit one of two free throws. MLC's Luke Rothe hit a three at the end of the half to give the Knights a 38-33 lead at the break.
 
Helgeson led the team with nine points through 20 minutes of play. Martin Luther and the Cougars shot the ball well in the first half, hitting nearly 50% of their shots.
 
Just like the first half the Cougars scored the first five points and tied the game at 38. Morris would gain the lead and go up by six, trying to gain control in the game. The Knights would stay with the Cougars by hitting a couple big shots.
 
Minnesota Morris pushed their lead to ten by the midway point of the second half. Martin Luther did not go away quietly, cutting that lead in half minutes later. It would be the closest the Knights would get however, as Morris held on for a 79-70 win.
 
Six Cougars finished the day with at least nine points. John Haseman scored 13 off the bench on 5-5 shooting, including a three and 2-2 from the foul line. CD Douglas and Tyler Ukkelburg added 11 points. Joe Roggenbuck and RJ Dean each scored nine points.
 
As a team the Cougars shot 59.6% from the field in the game, which was better than the team shot from the foul line, the lone black mark for UMM on the day.
