Stevenson Scores 20 in Cougars Win

ABERDEEN, S.D. – Minnesota Morris (2-1) held on for a 76-74 win at Presentation (1-4) on Tuesday night. Elli Stevenson had a career high 20 points, the most by a freshmen since Kendra Wycoff scored 21 against Bethany Lutheran in 2012.

Once again the Cougars bench was able to have the edge, outscoring the Saints 18-7. Kendra Raths just missed a double-double finishing with 13 points and nine rebounds. Tori Holt had 14 points and Kayla Kraemer added 11 to also finish in double figures.

The Cougars scored the first four points of the game but the Saints didn't wilt. Presentation would take a lead late in the first quarter and held it until Raths tied the game at 17 with 19 seconds to play in the quarter.

Morris tied the game three times in the second quarter before a three pointer from Bailey Miller gave the Cougars a lead with 3:32 to play in the half. UMM would stay ahead of the Saints for the remainder of the half.

Both team shot over 48% in the first half. Morris held a 7-1 advantage in made free throws at the break.

Presentation would comeback early in the third quarter and took a lead with 7:16 left. The seventh tie of the game came when Stevenson hit a three to tie the game at 47. The three sparked an 11-1 run, giving the Cougars a seven point lead. Morris would hold the lead through the quarter break.

The UMM lead would grow to eight and stay a two possession game for most of the final quarter. Presentation got as close as one at 70-69 before the Cougars pushed back, increasing the lead back to six.

The Saints hit a three with seven seconds left to pull them within two. Morris had a chance to close out the game at the foul line but could not. Presentation's last ditch effort missed and the Cougars held on for the win.

Morris will host Presentation next Monday in the 2015-16 home opener at 7:30 p.m.
