ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Cougars (11-13, 9-4 UMAC) dropped their second straight game, this time falling 64-53 on the road to Northwestern (15-9, 13-0 UMAC).
RJ Dean led the way 11 points and
Neil Helgeson added ten. Morris was 0-8 from three in the game, the first time this season they failed to make a three point basket. You have to go back to 2011 for the last time a Cougar team was held without a three point basket.
Minnesota Morris took an early 7-2 lead in the first half but Northwestern would pull back within a possession shortly after. The game would remain a four point game or less for a majority of the half. Late in the period Northwestern pulled ahead by seven thanks to an 11-2 run to end the first.
Dean led the Cougars in the first half with seven points on 3-6 shooting.
Joe Roggenbuck had six points off the bench.
Trailing 39-30 Morris scored six straight to pull within three by the 15:18 mark in the second half. The Eagles would respond however, scoring four straight to reclaim their seven point cushion. Roggenbuck cut it to a one possession game with 12 minutes left but right away UNW responded with a three to double their lead.
The Cougars were unable to respond and Northwestern pulled out to a 15 point lead with 5:53 left. Morris would drop the game 64-53. UMM will try to rebound with a victory over North Central in the regular season finale tomorrow evening.
