ROSEMOUNT, Minn. – The Minnesota Morris Cougars (0-2) were swept in their season opening double header on Sunday morning. Macalester (2-0) handed the Cougars a 7-4 loss in game one and a 14-0 loss in game two. The Cougars could only manage three hits in the double header.
GAME 1
The Scots scored a run in the first and second inning to go up 2-0 after two complete. Macalester put four runs across in the top of the third as they tried to run away from UMM. In the bottom half of the inning the Cougars got two runs back thanks to three walks, an error and two wild pitches.
After a scoreless fourth inning the Scots tacked on an insurance run making the score 7-2 after five complete. Three more walks for the Cougars in the bottom of the sixth help spark a rally.
Gina Downie and
Alex Anderson had back-to-back RBI singles to pull within three. It would be too little, too late as Morris fell 7-4.
Mackenzie Weatherly finished the game with six strikeouts, giving up just two earned runs. The Cougars finished with four errors in game number one.
GAME 2
Morris was the visitors in the second game of the double-header meaning they had first crack at the plate. Unfortunately they went down in order. The Scots would get on the board in the bottom half of the first scoring a pair of runs on three hits and an error.
Macalester pushed across four runs in the bottom of the second inning, going up 6-0 after two. The Scots' lead would get even larger in the fourth inning as they scored eight runs, pushing their lead to 14. The game would end after the Cougars failed to score in the top of the fifth.
Cassie Sowada had the lone hit for Minnesota Morris in the second game.
