FORT MYERS, Fla. – Minnesota Morris (1-7) fell twice on Tuesday morning, losing 12-4 to Emory and Henry and 6-2 to Alverno College.
Molly Olson had three hits and two RBI on the day to lead the Cougars.
Meghan Pomeroy had two RBI's on the day as well.
vs Emory and HenryEmory and Henry quickly jumped on the Cougars, scoring six runs on six hits including two homers and a pair of walks. A three run homerun started the scoring and then a two run homer two batters later made it 5-0. The sixth run scored on a two out single that also saw the inning end as a runner was cut down trying to go from first to third.
Two more runs would score in the bottom of the second inning with a pair of RBI doubles for the Wasps. After a couple scoreless innings
Autumn Mahoney would start a rally for the Cougars with a single to lead off the inning.
Gina Downie then reached on a fielder's choice that saw Mahoney beat out the play at second.
Molly Olson had a one out single to score Mahoney.
Cassie Sowada singled home Downie and then
Meghan Pomeroy had a sac fly to score Olson. Finally,
Maegan Anderson had a two out double to score Sowada cutting the lead to four at 8-4.
Unfortunately for UMM, Emory and Henry responded to score two runs in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the bottom of the sixth to win the game 12-4.
vs. Alverno In the Cougars second game of the day, the Alverno Inferno scored first, putting two runs across the plate in the top of the first. UMM got a run back in the bottom of the inning when Pomeroy's double plated Downie. The Inferno would counter in the top of the second taking advantage of a Cougar error. Morris went down in order in their half of the second inning.
Alverno tacked on another run in the third inning making it 4-1. Morris went down in order in the third and fourth as well and Alverno held on to their 4-1 lead. Minnesota Morris would hold down Alverno's offense for a few innings keeping them in the contest.
The Inferno would add two more runs in the sixth to go up 6-1. Olson singled home
Alex Anderson in the bottom of sixth to cut the lead to four. It would be too little, too late as Alverno would hold on for the 6-2 win.
