FT. MYERS, Fla. –Minnesota Morris (2-8) ended their spring trip with a split on Wednesday beating Eastern Nazarene 13-5 before falling to Olivet College 11-2 in five innings. Meagan Pomeroy,
Autumn Mahoney and
Molly Olson each three RBI on the day. Mahoney was 3-4 with three runs scored and three RBI in the game against ENC.
vs ENC Eastern Nazarene got on the board first scoring three runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Cougars struck back for two in the second inning taking advantage of two errors by ENC. Olson had an RBI on bases loaded walk. Nazarene got a run back in the bottom of the third to take a two run lead.
Minnesota Morris would come back alive in the fourth and fifth innings.
Alex Anderson led off the fourth with a single.
Gina Downie followed it up with a single of her own as did Mahoney, which scored Anderson. Olson drove her second run of the game in with a sac fly to center. The final run of the inning scored when Pomeroy drove in Mahoney. Morris would score three times in the fifth inning as well. Four straight one out singles by
Paige Larson, Anderson, Downie and Mahoney would provide the Cougars with two runs, the third run of the inning scored on a wild pitch.
Nazarene got one run back in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-5 with an inning to play. The Cougars would explode in the seventh for five runs and six hits. Mahoney, Pomeroy,
Clare Hamer and
Kallie Grote all had an RBI in the inning. Eastern Nazarene threatened in the seventh but couldn't score as UMM went on to win 13-5.
vs OC Olivet College jumped on the Cougars, scoring five runs in the first two innings of play. Minnesota Morris tried to respond, scoring a pair of runs in the top of the third.
Cassie Sowada drove in A. Anderson who reached via single. Pomeroy added a single to drive in Downie, cutting the deficit to three.
Unfortunately the Cougars did not get much else going offensively the rest of the game while Olivet did. The Comets would score six runs in the bottom of the fourth and win the game 11-2.
Morris is now off until March 30 when they take on Crown at home in the UMAC opener.
