ASHLAND, Wis. – The Cougars (14-12, 12-3 UMAC) had their winning streak snapped at five today, splitting a pair of games with Northland (7-20, 5-7 UMAC). Minnesota Morris won game one 4-3 before falling 6-3 in game two.
Meghan Pomeroy had a two run homer in the game one victory.
GAME 1 Morris got on the board quickly in game one, scoring a run in the first.
Molly Olson drove in
Gina Downie, putting UMM on top. In the second inning Pomeroy homered to left field driving in Olson.
The LumberJills got a couple runs back in the fourth inning to make it a one run game. One of the Jills runs in the inning was unearned.
Autumn Mahoney delivered for UMM in the sixth inning doubling to center to drive in
Alex Anderson. Starter
Mackenzie Weatherly gave up a run in the seventh inning but held on for her eighth win of the year. She scattered nine hits over seven innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out five.
GAME 2 Minnesota Morris took an early lead in the second game as well and again it involved both Olson and Downie. Downie scored as Olson was caught stealing second base. Northland came right back in the bottom of the inning, scoring a pair of runs on a homer to right field.
Northland scored a couple more runs in the bottom of third taking a 4-1 lead. Olson scored a run in the top of the fourth in a similar way to how the Cougars scored in the first. Morris pushed another run across in the inning as Pomeroy scored thanks to an error.
It would be the last run the Cougars would score in the game as Northland tacked on two more runs and picked up a 6-3 win.
Minnesota Morris travels to St. Scholastica tomorrow afternoon for another UMAC doubleheader.
