DULUTH, Minn. – The Cougars (14-14, 12-5 UMAC) were swept by St. Scholastica (21-10, 15-0 UMAC) on Saturday, falling 5-0 and 5-2. Morris was held to eight hits in the pair of games with the Saints.
Gina Downie had a hit in each game for Minnesota Morris.
GAME 1
Morris threatened in the top third when Downie doubled to right with a pair of outs, but was stranded there. The Saints took a lead in the bottom of the third inning with a sac fly to left field. The Cougars had another two out hit in the fourth but again the runner was stranded there.
St. Scholastica scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the game away. Morris did not record a hit in the final three innings of play.
GAME 2
Minnesota Morris scored first in game two, going up 1-0 on a wild pitch allowing
Molly Olson to score. The Saints would counter with four runs in the bottom of the fourth taking a 4-1 lead. The Cougars got a run back in the top of the seventh when
Alex Anderson drove in
Paige Larson, but it was too little, too late. Scholastica would win the game 5-2.
Next up for UMM is a pair of games against Martin Luther and Bethany Lutheran. The games will be played in St. Bonifacius, Minnesota.
