MORRIS, Minn. – Morris (5-10, 1-4 UMAC) fell 16-2 in seven innings to St. Scholastica (13-6, 5-0 UMAC) in the first of the three game series between the two teams. Minnesota Morris struck first but the Saints scored 16 unanswered runs to win the game. CSS put up crooked numbers in the fourth and sixth inning to pull away from UMM.
Jake Schmitz drew a one out walk putting the Cougars in business in the first.
Donnie Mavencamp was hit by a pitch with two outs. Both Schmitz and Mavencamp moved up on a wild pitch, putting runners on first and second.
Chandler Erickson singled to drive both base runners in and put Morris up 2-0.
The Saints would tie the game in the top of the second inning, scoring two runs off a single. In the top of the fourth inning Scholastica put six runs on the board and taking an 8-2 lead. The lead grew to 12 by the end of the sixth inning. The Saints put the icing on the cake in the seventh, pushing two more across the plate and winning the game.
The Cougars will take on the Saints in a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon starting at noon.
