MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (16-23, 10-11 UMAC) finished the season with a sweep of North Central (6-26, 1-19 UMAC) on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars won the first game 12-0 and then won 14-0 in game two.
Brodie Raymond picked up his first win of the year in the second game of the day. For the second straight year the Cougars finish the season with ten UMAC wins. They finished with 16 overall wins, one better than last season and most since 1996.
GAME 1
Morris scored a pair of runs in the second inning to take a 2-0 lead.
Trent Johnson drove in his second run of the game in the fourth putting UMM up 3-0. Another run scored in the fifth and the Cougars led 4-0.
In the sixth inning the Cougars scored five runs on six hits and two errors putting the game away.
Kylan Hill,
Eric Terres,
Chandler Erickson, and
Jackson Gessell all had RBI's in the game.
The Cougars added three more in the seventh making the game 12-0, which is where it ended.
Joey Hyde pitched all seven innings allowing just two hits to earn his fourth win of the season.
GAME 2
Gessell put the Cougars up 1-0 in the top of the first driving in Terres with a sac fly to left field. In the third inning
Christian Korlath drove in Erickson to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead.
Hill had a solo homer in the fourth sparking a three run inning. Erickson and Gessell also had RBI's during the rally.
Connor Spindler put UMM up 6-0 with a single to right field driving in
Devin Waldvogel.
The lead reached double digits in the sixth when the Cougars added four more runs to go up 10-0. Another four run inning followed in the seventh putting Morris up 14-0 which is where the game ended.
Raymond with five and a third allowing just two hits and striking out five.
