COLLEGEVILLE, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (0-1) fell 2-1 to Saint John's (1-0) on Tuesday evening, losing in double overtime on a 101
st minute goal.
Devin White scored the Cougars first goal of 2015, which put Morris up 1-0 in the 60
th minute.
The Johnnies had the first four shots of the match but could not convert on any attempt. SJU would remain in control of the match in terms of shots, leading that category 10-2 by the end of the first 45 minutes of play. Keeper
Cody Christ kept the Cougars in the match with three saves. Morris had two shots in the first half one by White and one by
Austin Keller, both were wide of the frame.
As the second half started Keller had a shot blocked after just a minute of play. However, the Johnnies started to fire away after that, racking up four shots and grabbing a corner. In the 60
th minute White picked off a pass from the Johnnie keeper and put the ball in the back of the net.
The match stayed 1-0 until the Johnnies scored off a cross in the 77
th minute. The Cougars earned a corner in the 88
th minute but could not get a shot off and the match went to overtime.
In the first extra session SJU picked up three shots but none ever got on net.
Zachary Jacobson had the lone UMM shot in the extra session but it too never got on frame.
The match winner came quickly in the second frame as Robert Deetz scored just 48 seconds in thanks to a long ball into the box.
Morris will now head out west for a pair of games in Washington starting this Friday.
