MORRIS, Minn. – The Cougars (2-3, 2-1 UMAC) scored first but gave up two unanswered goals in a 2-1 loss to Northland (3-3, 1-1 UMAC) on Saturday.
Molly Hancuh scored from about 25 yards out with a beautiful strike but the Cougars could not manage to find the back of the net on any of their other 20 shots.
Lindsay Clay used some nice individual skill to clear herself and find Hancuh open on the right side of the pitch. Hancuh took a touch and drove the ball from 25 yards out into the left side of the net putting the Cougars up in the 24
th minute.
Seven minutes later it was the LumberJills who went on the offensive and scored on a shot after a good cross.
Yu Ito nearly gave the Cougars a lead but her shot glanced off the keeper and the post to keep her off the scoreboard. The game stayed tied as the game went to break tied at one. Morris led the shots category 9-6 in the opening 45 minutes of play.
Ten minutes into the second half Heather Jensen rose up to head the ball over a charging
Torri Jordan to put Northland up 2-1. The Cougars tried their best to tie the game up late in the match but their shots continued to go off target.
Carly Denler had a great chance to tie the match in the 88
th minute but the Northland keeper came up big when she needed to in order to save the win for the LumberJills.
Morris will be on the road for the next two contests. They pay Grace University in Omaha next Saturday.
