MANKATO, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (7-7, 4-3 UMAC) moved to .500 on the year after a 21 point win over Bethany Lutheran (5-10, 3-4 UMAC), extending their winning streak to four.
Tyler Ukkelberg had 19 points and
CD Douglas added 18 in the 85-64 win. Ukkelberg also grabbed 11 rebounds to complete his first career double-double.
The Cougars shot 55% on the night, outshooting the Vikings by nearly 20%.
John Haseman finished the night 6-8 from the floor to score 12 points.
Anthony Fisher was 5-7 and scored 11 points.
Jeremy Halverson had another double-digit scoring night, tacking on 10 points. Morris also dominated the paint, outscoring Bethany 46-18.
Morris had 16 assists on Friday night, led by a career high 12 from Douglas. It was his first double-double of his career. Douglas and Ukkelberg each tallied three steals to help the defensive effort.
The game was tight early but the Cougars led for a majority of the first half. Bethany stayed within two possessions until a 10-0 run by UMM gave them a 35-23 lead with 4:55 left in the half. Bethany would come back with an 8-0 run and got as close as two with 1:36 left in the first. Minnesota Morris seized momentum with a 7-0 run to end the half.
The lead would extend to double digits early in the second half but Bethany would not fall quietly. With 12:31 left in the game the Vikings had pulled back within a possession at 51-48. Over the next five minutes of play UMM laid down the hammer with a 20-2 run, taking a commanding 71-50 lead. Bethany would be unable to overcome the run and Morris left town with an important UMAC victory.
Tomorrow the Cougars will try to take down Martin Luther at 3 p.m. in New Ulm.
