MORRIS, Minn. – Morris (7-9) got back to their winning ways on Monday night with an 81-70 win over Presentation (6-9). Four Cougars scored in double figures on the night, led by
Kendra Raths who had a career high 17 points.
Minnesota Morris was aggressive on offense all night, getting to the free throw line 38 times and outscoring Presentation 26-11 in made free throws. Morris also had just six turnovers, tying a season low. UMM would finish the game with an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers.
The Cougars started the game on the right foot, racing out to a 14-2 lead. Presentation would get back in the game late in the first quarter. The Saints got as close as one at 25-24 with 8:34 left in the half. Presentation finally took a lead late in the second quarter. Morris would close the second half with three straight made three pointers and took a 46-37 lead at the break.
Early in the second half Morris extended their lead to 14, the largest of the game. Presentation did their best to track the Cougars down, erasing the lead with an 18-4 run. Haley Froelich scored 11 of her 35 points during the PC run.
The game would remain close for the first four minutes of the fourth quarter. Over the next three minutes of play an 11-2 run gave the Cougars a nine point lead with 2:23 left. Presentation would never recover and the Cougars earned the 11 point victory.
Elli Stevenson had 16 points and four rebounds.
Tori Holt had 14 points and eight rebounds.
Kayla Kraemer also scored 14 points on the evening while dishing out four assists.
Maja Coomes had eight points off the bench.
Cori Becker had seven rebounds, four assists, three points and two steals.
On Saturday UMM will look for their fourth UMAC win of the season against Crown at 5 p.m.
