MORRIS, Minn. – The University of Minnesota, Morris (3-7, 1-3 UMAC) could not fully overcome a hot start by Wisconsin-Superior (5-5, 3-1 UMAC) as the Yellow Jackets pulled away for an 85-74 win.
CD Douglas had another 20 point game finishing with 23 points on 10-18 shooting.
Tyler Ukkelberg had 11 points and seven rebounds.
With the score tied at 15, Wisconsin-Superior tried to pull away from UMM with a 16-2 run. The Yellow Jackets made their first seven three pointers to take a 31-17 lead with 11:03 left. The lead would stay in double figures for most of the next six minutes of play.
The Cougar defense did their job to get the team back in the game. In the final 5:10 of the half Morris went on a 13-5 run to pull within four by the half time break. In that span the Yellow Jackets were held without a basket for nearly three minutes.
Ukkelberg started the half with a made layup drawing the Cougars within two at 47-45. Unfortunately that would be as close as Morris would get. Wisconsin-Superior quickly pushed their lead to nine with 13:44 left in the game. Minnesota Morris closed the gap to three with 11:04 left but got no closer.
Wisconsin-Superior finished the game 9-24 from three after making their first seven attempts. Minnesota Morris was held to just 31% from the field in the second half.
Morris will try to rebound tomorrow when they host St. Scholastica at 3 p.m. in the P.E. Center.
