MORRIS, Minn. – Minnesota Morris (9-9, 6-4 UMAC) hung with the Northwestern Eagles (16-3, 8-2 UMAC) for much of the game on Friday night but UNW pulled away late for a 78-67 lead.
CD Douglas had 29 points for UMM. The Eagles 14-7 advantage at the free throw line proved to the difference in the contest.
Northwestern took a 13-6 lead with 14:18 left in the first half. The Eagles would maintain a lead until UMM went on an 8-0 run, capped off by a three from
Dylan Erickson. UNW didn't trail long, responding with seven straight points and took a 25-20 lead with 6:51 left. Morris wouldn't take a lead again in the half but trailed by just four at the break.
The Eagles would continue to hold a small advantage as the second half got underway. Morris would take a lead with a layup from
Kevin Heysee with 14:31 left in the game. The lead would only last for about 50 seconds. Northwestern would take the lead back and pulled away late for an 11 point win.
Joe Roggenbuck had 12 points and
Tyler Ukkelberg added ten points. Morris was held to just 4-14 from behind the three point line. Three Eagles scored in double figures, led by Will Gisler with 19 points. Kyle Ooms had 16 points and 16 rebounds.
Tomorrow the Cougars will face North Central in the UMAC Game of the Week. North Central will try to rebound after a tough loss to Crown on Friday night.
